In the 1970s, David DeGroot opened his home to students for after school religious activities. The activities were well-liked, parents were solicited to help with the students and an Assembly of God Church was born. In 1970 the church bought a corner lot from Mr. Cook and began building a church. They moved in on New Year's Eve and sat on boards laid on cinder blocks, naming themselves Oasis of Hope Assembly of God Church. The church closed about 2016.
In March 2018 a new church, Renewal of Heart, began meeting at the Village Park Club and Assembly Rooms. In October they purchased the Oasis of Hope Church and are holding services as the Renewal of Heart Church of God by Name in the old church.
