Description:
Second Empire brick residence built c. 1860-70 by local miller James Craggs and wife, Marietta Nash Craggs. Brick and St. Catherine's limestone were brought by ship from Canada to Pultneyville. Window sills, lintels and water table are all limestone. Two carpenters from England produced the interior work. Mansard roof is slate. Landscape architect Fletcher Steele redesigned garden in 1955 for then owners the D' Amanda's, who purchased home in 1939. Structure was sometimes referred to as "Liberty Hall."

Historic narrative:
Following the deaths of James (1884) and Marietta (1900), daughter Ella lived in the house. She was married to the son of Aaron Brewer, the village blacksmith, who ran a hardware store in Newark. The house was once used as a Rest Home, where there were 36 bunks on the third floor.
