Wallington Methodist Episcopal Church

A fine description of this first and only church in Wallington preceded in the Hoffman paper.  The Reverend Rufus R. Cooper arrived on October 7, 1905 to be its first pastor.  Community life and the spirit of the people revolved around the church for many years.

The Record June 28, 1907  Re: the Children's Day Service June 16, by Ellen Sergeant Rude

An excerpt:  Every window in the little new Church is a memorial window through which the soft light sifts in ever varying shades, while the church itself stands as a memorial to the untiring energy of the Rev. Cooper, supplemented by the open-handed benevolence of the people from all the county round."  What gives a glorious promise of the future is the fact that a band of earnest workers stand ready to carry on the good work thus happily begun."

And the good work did continue for many years, but by the winter of 1944 (midst World War II) the population of the congregation had declined to the point where the closing of the church was inevitable. In the fall of 1947 the church building was sold to Ruth Duncan Judson and Lester Judson to be converted into their family home.  Later they used the east side for the post office.  This structure is now the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Politza.
