Historic narrative:

This cobblestone house was built in 1840 during the Middle Cobblestone Building Period. It currently is the home of Cobblestone Kennels.

The ISRAEL HOUSE ON THE SOUTH GENEVA ROAD


Kenneth Israel owns this house on the South Geneva road in the town of Sodus. Proseus is thought to have built this house before he built the Cottrell Barn in 1849. He was once co-owner of this farm with Mrs. Cottrell's father-in-law. In 1910, William Messinger bought the house from Leon Hood and later transferred it to Duron Messinger who sold it to Arthur Espesheid who sold it to the present owner.


STONES: The field stones are all colors and measure 3-4 x 2 1/2 inches. Courses are 4 inches high.


JOINTS:  The horizontal joints are 1 1/4 inches and the vertical.: joints are V s and pyramids.


MORTAR: The mortar is hard with some large pebbles.


QUOINS:  The quoins are long and. irregular of gray sandstone.


LINTELS: The lintels are V cut Medina sandstone.
