Historic narrative:
Organized in 1845, the congregation purchased and moved the Marbletown Christian Church to Newark in 1865. In 1897 the men of the congregation dismantled the old building and built an larger church using many of the original bricks. In 1922 an organ was purchased and the organ alcove was built. The basement was lowered 3 1/2 feet in 1936 and dug out under the organ alcove in order to install 20 ft. and 15 ft. steel beams to support the organ. The various men's organizations made a competition of the digging. The organ was rebuilt and modernized with chimes added in 1951.
