Historic narrative:
When St. Anne's was organized in 1848, the congregation used the old brick academy (which once stood between the Catholic and Presbyterian churches). In August 1854 John Sayers Orr arrived in Palmyra and stirred people to a frenzy with his anti-Catholic rhetoric. While residents trashed St. Anne's sanctuary, he left on the train. Major repairs were needed.  The Church was consecrated in October 1870 by Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid.
