Historic narrative:
Organized about 1805, the first building was erected near the Newark Cemetery. A frame building was built on Main Street in 1827, followed by a brick building in 1857. That building was remodeled and added to from about 1900 to 1925 making the church as seen today. Behind the church are wooden buildings, originally horse sheds, that are now rented as garages.
