Description:
Home of Elias Durfee. This Federal style home has a wide frieze under the eaves. The main section has eight rooms with the addition having an additional eight. The rear wing was originally wooden but was replaced in the early 1900's with one made from concrete block.  The wooden wing was then moved just down the road and used as a hired man's house.  The Elias and Mercy Durfee moved to the land between 1828 and 1831. They originally built a log cabin just in front of the home while building the stone structure.  Local lore says there was a plank walkway between the two houses until the stone house was completed. The home is dated to 1830 and was possibly built using limestone taken from the quarry at the Hall farm at Hall Center. Oral tradition maintains that this was a stop on the Underground Railroad.
