Marion-Palmyra District 8 Schoolhouse

Description:
According to the Beers map of 1874, the District 8 schoolhouse was located next to what was then the Luce farm on Mill St.  This building is now a private residence.

Historic narrative:
Each town had many schoolhouses located in areas where settlement was
concentrated.  Marion students were served by a dozen or so
schoolhouses, each with its own teacher.  The teachers were often fresh
out of the Marion Collegiate Institute.  One of these teachers was
Nellie Sherwood who taught in this schoolhouse in 1894.  She later
married Scott Curtis, town health officer and funeral director.
