Historic narrative:
Organized in 1870, the congregation built a frame church, 40' x 70' on Union St. in that year. In 1873 they built the current building. The church was raised and a basement was dug in 1905. Electric lighting and a church bell were installed in 1913. The pipe organ was installed in 1922.The church closed in the 1960s and has since been used  for day care and after school programs.

The congregation was originally comprised of Dutch immigrants and the services were conducted in that language.  Around 1910, a split occurred between those who wanted services in English and those who wanted them to remain in Dutch. About 170 people formed the Second Reformed Church from this congregation.
