Historic narrative:

St. John’s Episcopal Church/Christ Community Church in Clyde

St. John's Episcopal Church was organized in 1840.  The congregation met in a frame building on Glasgow Street.  The building was moved to North Park Street in 1845. An organ was donated to the church by Geneva Trinity Church in 1846.

After a fire in 1883 destroyed the frame building, a stone structure was built on West Genesee at Lock Street constructed of Medina sandstone. The original organ, though damaged from the fire of 1883, was repaired and used by church for several years until it was replaced in 1888 by a wooden tracker organ.

A Tiffany window highlights the back of the chancel wall on the west side. The window was donated in 1900 by Charles Ely, owner of Clyde Glassworks,  in memory of his mother. This window is one of two Tiffany windows installed in Wayne County.

The congregation disbanded in 1977.  The building was purchased by the Church of Christ of South Butler, beginning a new church, Christ Community Church.
