Historic narrative:

The first schoolhouse stood to the north of the present location of the former school. It was followed by other buildings and after many years, a site further south was selected for its schoolhouse.
Many German families moved from Lyons to Wayne Center, so the school was used for church services, alternating in English and German.

The schoolhouse today has been altered and is used as a residence.

The first building was erected to the northward of the four corners just over the Lyons line.

Around 1890 religious services alternately in English and German were being held every Sunday (Methodist). Not too much is known about the early school because the people had scattered and there were few or no records. The building is now used as a residence.
