Description:

Historic narrative:

People in the district were reputed to be very clannish and determined to have their own school instead of having to send their children to the Griswold or Covell schools even though the other schools were within walking distance. Robert Jeffers gave the land, and the school was built.

They were “Spunky” about it and the name clung to the district. This school was also the meeting place of the “Neversweats” who disliked the form and ceremony of regular churches.
The building has served as a residence but is vacant today. It is the only original school left unchanged in the Town of Rose.
