Historic narrative:

1819 saw the first log schoolhouse. It was used until 1824 when it was sold for $6.31. That year the “Red Schoolhouse” was built, located near the North Hotel (site of David Hall’s market) and then moved to the cobblestone schoolhouse was built in 1846 (across from the present Free Methodist Church parsonage). 

In 1861, the district purchased the unused Presbyterian edifice, just west of the Free Methodist Church location today. It became a mill and later burned. 

The large brick schoolhouse was built in 1867 at a cost of $4,000. On the site of present Rose Community Building. 

Thre present building was built in 1938 following a fire which destroyed the brick building in 1867. 

Rose had 50,000 dedicated to the school, this was replacing the fire that had taken out the structure.
