| This was the first house built in Joy, New York in 1817 by Gaius Granger. On November 6, 1821, Gaius Granger and Catherine Taylor Granger had their first born son: Gordon Granger. Gordon would grow up to be a famous Civil War General and the man behind the Juneteenth celebration. You can read all about this remarkable man in the first link below. The second link below shows additional photos of the homestead. Note the photo name is a description of the photo. You can look at any photo individually or parse through them by clicking on > on the right side of the screen. On June 19, 2023 (Juneteenth), a Pomeroy Historic Marker was dedicated at this site.
