Historic narrative:
This building was built in 1840 at the southwest corner of Sodus and Caroline St. as the first church building of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Early in 1859, the building was moved to this location on Caroline Street.
At the end of the year it was rented by the Universalist and Lutheran congregations who shared its use. The
Universalist Church was admitted into the Ontario Association of
Universalist Churches in 1843. The Lutherans organized in 1859.
     In September 1864 the Baptist
Church and the Lutherans together purchased the old Methodist
Episcopal building, sharing it for about 6 years.
In 1870, The Free Methodists and
the Lutherans then purchased the old Methodist Episcopal building. The Free Methodist Church merged with the Rose Free Methodist Church in 1917.
     St. Paul’s Lutheran Church
built a new building to the east in 1923. The building then became a dwelling.
In 2018, the church, as part of the Clyde Downtown Historic District was added to the New York State and National Lists of Historic Places.
