From the 1853 Walling Map of Wayne County...#74 to the west of the brook, was the location of the Jones Harness Shop.Jones typewriter.

Historic narrative:
The machine, known as JONES TYPOGRAPHER, was patented on June 1, 1852 and sold for $40. It was subsequently exhibited at the World's Fair and is claimed to be one of the first typewriters ever manufactured. It was constructed at his wagon shop on Ford Street. Rather than the letters being pressed upward to strike a ribbon against the rubber roller of the machine, they were pressed downward upon a paper by a lever from above, making a clear and legible impression. The paper was carried in a small cylinder at the side, the apparatus in its entirety measured eleven by seventeen inches, and was eight inches in height.
