Historic narrative:
The building which once stood here was a tavern on the busy turnpike from Auburn to Lyons. It had two fireplaces in the main room and two sets of stairs to separate rooms on the second floor. The second stair on the east side went up to a smaller room which was allotted to women travelers. The west stair went up to a much larger room where male travelers slept. When the owner decided to sell the property after her husband died, the government gave her the best price. All traces of the house, barns and out buildings have been removed and the site is becoming overgrown.
This is the place where Sheriff Snedekar found William Fee sleeping off a hangover after the body of a woman was found not far away.
