Description:
Port Gibson and its basin (port) lie in the Town of Manchester, Ontario County. It is included in the Wayne County Historic Sites web site as a courtesy to those who want to travel along the remnants of the older canals.

Historic narrative:
In 1823, when Wayne County was split off from Seneca and Ontario Counties, Port Gibson was section out of the southern part of the Town of Palmyra into Ontario County so that Ontario County could keep a port on the Erie Canal.
